Device baseline — hostname, secret, console + VTY, encryption

Fresh router (default hostname Router). Turn it into a sane, minimally-hardened device: rename it to EDGE-1, set the enable secret to Cisco123!, protect the console and VTY lines with passwords, and turn on service password-encryption so clear-text passwords aren't sitting readable in the config. Verify with show running-config.

Why service password-encryption?

Without it, password commands write clear text into the config. It uses Cisco type-7 which is trivial to reverse, but it prevents shoulder-surfing and casual copy-paste leaks. Use enable secret and username … secret (both type-9 / scrypt) for anything that needs real protection.
